Each United Church of Canada is governed by a General Council. This group of people look after all areas of business in the church. All members are encouraged to share their professional experience and gifts on church committees.
The full Council meets every two months on the second Wednesday of the month, alternating with the Executive Council, a subset of the full Council. Here is a description of the responsibilities of the committees:
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION The Christian Education Committee organizes educational and social programs for the children and the youth at KRU. Some of the notable responsibilities of this group is the Fall Fun Fair, the White Xmas play, and the youth service.
COMMUNICATION The Communication Committee coordinates church communication internally and externally including outside signs, the website and Facebook page.
MINISTRY & PERSONNEL This committee manages the church staff.
OUTREACH Kingston Road participates in a wide range of outreach activities to help those in our community, in Canada, and internationally. We participate in Amnesty International, the Beach Interfaith Outreach Drop-in Lunch Program, the Out of the Cold program, the Mission and Service Fund, the Grace Pasco food bank, the Benevolent fund, the East End Refugee Committe, and the Native Solidarity Circle.
PASTORAL CARE The Pastoral Care Committee is responsible for the care and nurture of our church family. Included in the committee's responsibilities are coordinating funeral receptions at KRU, refreshments for special events and for Friendship Time, keeping up with the health and welfare of the congregation, celebrating birthdays, updating the prayer board, visiting, and cards (for special occasions and to the sick and bereaved).
PROPERTY The Property Committee manages the church building as a whole, including equipment.
STEWARDSHIP & FINANCE Handles the financial needs of Kingston Road United Church including fundraising, financial reporting, budgeting, and bill payment.
WORSHIP The Worship Committee develops spiritual themes and plans the church services.
